Our
surfing lessons maintain focus on Personal Safety, Ocean Awareness,
Surfing Etiquette and Pure Fun as the Sport of Surfing was intended.
"In 2003, Woody's Surf Shop in conjunction with the Suffolk
County Parks Division of Sports & Recreation offered the Surfing
Clinic at Cupsogue Beach County Park in Westhampton, according
to Suffolk County Executive Robert J. Gaffney."
"This event is part of the County's on-going effort to provide
more recreational activities for the youth of Suffolk County,"
said the County Executive. "While providing a safe environment
for participants to learn the sport of surfing, the County is
also raising awareness of alternative opportunities for staying
in shape and thus leading healthier lifestyles."
Like Suffolk County, we too value the personal health of all
here in LI yet we welcome all! Many of our participants return
for additional instruction. This program has been a huge success
for many in our community and abroad.
Our Beginner Lesson Format focuses upon Ocean Awareness, Water
Safety, Surfing Etiquette, Equipment and Weather Conditions.
We also incorporate a wide array of Surfing Tips into our lesson
plan to enhance the learning process.
In
addition, we examine the History of Surfing that provides each
student with a Backdrop designed to provide a Solid Learning
Foundation or Base.
The Beginner clinic/lesson is held at 0730 to 0900 AM. Call
631-399-7136 or 561-596-7866 for questionable weather or questions
after 0630 the day of the clinic/lesson.
Students may borrow an Instructional Video at the Surf Shop
before the clinic/lesson. All students will receive a 10% discount
from Woody's Surf Shop that covers most items except for Surfboards.
After clinic/lesson completion, Students may Rent Surfboards
at Woody's Surf Shop for $ 25.00 with a $200.00 deposit refundable
after the rental agreement period.
We have a limited amount of surfboards available and sizing
at the beach is based upon a first come basis. Class sizes are
limited, so attempt to make reservations as soon as practical.
Wetsuits, transportation and food are not provided.
The
Novice lesson format reinforces the Beginner Lesson content
and is intended to enforce Basic Techniques & Promote Self Confidence
so crucial to the sport. Not called the Sport of Kings for nothing,
Surfing requires Courage and a Great Sense of Respect & understanding
for the Ocean, its Inhabitants and Users.
All students are encouraged to participate in other sports such
as Fishing, Hiking, Swimming or just simply Beach Combing along
the beautiful shores at the Fire Island National Seashore Park
here at Smith Point Park. Surfing is a lifestyle that requires
many skills that may be attained by participation and maintaining
strong mental focus toward many everyday activities.
Instruction for the Advanced Surfer is available and tailored
to suit the students needs.

To the Parents of our youth, we open the floor for a question
and answer session toward the end of each lesson. We encourage
participation because the success of our younger students depends
largely on family support such as something simple as transportation
to and from the beach. As parents too, we at Woody's Surf Shop
value your concerns and/or input. Your input kindles the fire
for success.
For the 2004 season, we intend to complement our entire program
by conducting special events enlisting professional surfers
from the local area and abroad. We are working hard to promote
awareness to the general public as well as a service to our
local community.
At the present time, our lessons remain affordable and a fantastic
source for information regarding the sport. Please feel free
to contact us with any information you may have. You can download
our Surfing Clinic Registration
Form here.
